Community Arts

Workshop for Easton Carnival with Gynormous RawkusInvolvement in arts projects has been proven to be therapeutic and an enjoyable activity for both children and adults. It can encourage team involvement, develop cultural knowledge, evoking issue-based discussion, introduce participants to new materials and craft ideas, and develop untapped artistic potential. Being involved in arts and crafts activities will build confidence in all participants. Oddball puppets have extensive experience in developing community arts projects, creating exciting, inclusive workshops that stretch the imagination, inspire and amuse. Oddball puppets aim to use recycled materials, and to minimise the environmental impact of our projects wherever possible.

Oddball Puppets has experience of working with these key groups:

Primary Schools

Oddball puppets have worked with Primary school children for many years and know that puppetry and craft workshops can be popular with the kids. Oddball Puppets can provide fun and educational arts experiences. Such as
designing and make African influenced costume for a dance or play, which could involve learning about sewing and printing. Or encourage children to make hand or shadow puppets based on a popular tale or story such as little red riding hood. Meaning them working as a team and helping with literacy.

Secondary Schools/Youth groups

Teenagers can be a difficult group to target and in my experience basing the project on something they can relate to can enhance there interest and involvement in the project. This could be an issue that they could discuss or use of special equipment. For example we could work with a small group of teenagers to develop a stop motion animation piece. Or work with a youth group to develop a art piece based on the issue of smoking.

Adult groups

Oddball Puppets can teach you many disciplines either alone or as a group these skills include, puppetry, mask making, lantern making and stop-motion animation.
